Setup guide

Start with free local monitoring. Add permissions and remote access only when you need them.

1. Install on your Mac

The current Mac release targets Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later. Download the verified release from Get the apps, move My Fan Control to Applications, then open it. Its fan icon or readings appear in the menu bar. Select them to open the overview.

2. Choose optional permissions

  1. Fan-control helper: needed only to write fan speeds. Enable it in the app’s setup. If macOS asks, approve My Fan Control in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. Temperature monitoring works without it.
  2. Notifications: allow them if you want local temperature, rule and hardware alerts. You can skip this.
  3. Launch at login: optional; enables monitoring after you sign into your Mac.

Revisit these choices in Mac Settings → General → Review Setup & Permissions. System mode lets macOS manage cooling; fans can legitimately remain at zero RPM at low load.

3. Explore the iPhone or web demo

The demo works without an account, device pairing or payment. Its values are samples and cannot control a real Mac.

4. Pair your Mac

  1. Open Mac Settings → Remote and enable remote access.
  2. Sign into the same My Fan Control account on iPhone or web. Sign in with Apple is available; an existing email account must authenticate before linking Apple.
  3. Scan or paste the Mac’s temporary pairing link and confirm ownership on the Mac. Camera access is requested only for scanning; pasting does not require it.

Pairing is free. Pro Fan permits remote access to one Mac. Never share a pairing code or device credential.

5. Unlock remote access

Choose a Pro Fan plan in the iPhone app, or Restore Purchases. Real readings and controls appear after server verification. Your Mac must remain awake, connected and have remote access enabled.

6. Use controls

System restores macOS control. Max requests full speed. Manual opens target review; Edit changes targets, and confirmation applies them. Link fan speeds scales each fan within its own hardware range.

Profiles save a group of settings; Save does not activate a profile. Activate applies it. Enabled temperature curves run in Rules mode; triggered rules or other curves may request more cooling. A missing curve sensor requests maximum cooling. On Apple Silicon, triggered rules use Max unless custom rule speeds are enabled.

Remote changes show Pending/Delivered until your Mac acknowledges their effective result. If settings conflict, refresh before editing again. Unsupported controls are disabled. You can disable Remote on the Mac at any time.
